Orlando FL Real Estate - Things to do in Orlando Florida - Everard is at John F. Kennedy center awaiting the NASA Space Shuttle Launch

I just got a text message that Everard is at the Kennedy Space Center awaiting the launch of the most complex space shuttle mission in NASA history. He is part of a group that was invited to see the launch and he'll be providing this blog post with some beautiful pictures. Me and Ray will conversely add our own photos from Pennsylvania as we see it. We're not going to bore you with any details on the launch as it's just a mere

15 minutes from now... (UPDATE: It has launched)

The launch was also viewable at NASA.GOV and CNN News.

UPDATE from Lancaster PA: i believe i made out a little bit of white light for about 20 seconds moving from left to right when looking west.  We could hear the shuttle the entire time though (can't verify it as it could have been a plane but the sound did not let up even after 5 minutes.

Note: We'll provide Everard's pictures as seen first hand tomorrow when he returns from his trip.

UPDATE: 3/18/09 here are the pictures from the event (as shown above). There was apparently also an air show accompanying the launch.

Everard took this incredible photo which is perhaps his best yet considering the subject.

There were also stuntplanes in the air doing tricks

The Space shuttle program is set to halt in 2010, awaiting completion of it's successors, Ares I, Ares V, and Orion, which will be unveiled in 2014.  so these launched are becoming historic and soon a thing of the past. In total 133 launches will have taken place by the end of the program. There are only 7 launches left till the end of the program. View the Space Shuttle Launch Schedule

5 Space Shuttles were originally built but only 3 remain(one of which is for not functional and for display only) The Challenger and Columbia have since been lost including it's crew. Only 2 active shuttles remain.

So next time there's a launch perhaps considering going to the Museum as it may be your last chance to do see the current space shuttle launches. Map to Kennedy Space Center | Driving Directions

lancaster.jpg Lancaster PA Luxury Real Estate picture by vkdesigns

In December 30, 2008, Lancaster was named the 8th most secure place to live amongst mid-sized cities in the U.S. 127 of the most notable metropolitan areas with populations between 150,000 and 500,000 were included in the study.

lancastersunset.jpg picture by vkdesigns

The study, conducted by the 5th annual farmers insurance group, used the following criteria to come to it's conclusion:

  • Crime Statistics
  • Extreme Weather
  • Risk of Natural Disasters
  • Housing Depreciation
  • # of Foreclosures
  • Air Quality
  • Life Expectancy
  • Unemployment #'s

Lancaster's diverse community has allowed it's economy to survive due to stable home prices, low unemployment, good education and low crime. It would be the Fourth time in 5 years that Lancaster has been in the top 20 of it's study. Ranked #1 was Olympia,Washington.

This study followed Forbes Magazine ranking Lancaster as one of the best 10 places to ride out the recession and previous to that in November, Lancaster was named one of the 6 best "Save Havens in Real Estate"by Kiplinger.

P1290494.jpg Lancaster PA Real estate - Lancaster County PA - Lancaster sunset picture by vkdesigns

Both studies credited Lancaster County's sturdy housing market & slow growth as activators against a recession. It should also be noted that Yahoo's travel site indicated that Lancaster had one of the largest page view increases on it's network.

Lancaster County PA Luxury Real Estate - About Lancaster County Pennsylvania - Part 2 of 20

lancaster.jpg Lancaster PA Luxury Real Estate picture by vkdesigns

Lancaster County Pennsylvania is a literary work of the past and future coming together. Residents and visitors can virtually watch American History unfolding before their eyes. In 1729, Early settlements in lancaster county were divided into 17 townships and villages which ultimately became communities and then cities. Some of those cities included Manheim, Lancaster City, Quarryville, Paradise and many others that followed in the same fashion. The first permanent settlement in Lancaster County was that belonging to Hans Herr and still stands to this day as a museum to recognize it's history as both the oldest building and oldest remaining site of mennonite worship in North America. In 2000, The National Civic League recognized Lancaster City with the All-American City Award which recognizes positive achievements of a city.

A typical house on the outskirts of the city

The oldest inland city in the United States is Lancaster City. Chartered as a borough in 1742 and a city in 1818 it became home as the Capitol of the United States for one day on September 27, 1777 and later the State's Capitol from 1799 to 1812.  Lancaster City itself was laid out in 1730 by James Hamilton and makes up 15 nearby neighborhoods. Some historic sites within the city include the Fulton Opera House, which was built on Lancaster's Pre-revolutionary jail that once housed the last of the Conestoga Indians and Lancaster County Prison, built in 1852 and resembled the Castle in Lancashire, England. One of the most recognizable estates in Lancaster once belonged to James Buchanan, our 15th President of the United States.

Lancaster City accounts for about 55,000 of that total which makes it the Eighth largest city in Pennsylvania. Part of what makes Lancaster so great is it's high population density which is focused in the city and makes commuting from the outskirts into the city a breeze compared to the national average. 5.8% of the current population is said to be Pennsylvania German, German or Dutch.
